Trinidad, California

My favorite town along our Northern California coastline journey is Trinidad, California (I've heard a number of great things about Jenner and Gualala as well, but our route didn't take us through those cities).

We've been on the road essentially every other day this week. As a result, I've been eating far too many road trip snacks and was in need of some serious exercise!

Trinidad is a quaint seaside town with plenty of outdoor activities and an abundance of state parks and beaches. We were only in Trinidad two nights, but we managed to get in a fair amount of exercise during that time. With so much to discover, I am looking forward to returning some time in the future

We walked the Trinidad lighthouse trail twice - an easy ~2 mile loop, offering spectacular views of the bay.

The reason we walked it twice: we got most of the way to the lighthouse the first time to find out it is only open on the 1st Saturday of every month (no hours posted on the sign), so on our second attempt (which happened to be the 1st Saturday of the month), we successfully made it through the gate - but upon reaching the lighthouse at 9:30 a.m., found that it didn't open until 10 a.m.!).

All worked out okay, though, as the views made it worthwhile.

Bonus: the trail starts at Trinidad State Beach, where Max was able to go off-leash and into full zoomie mode.

From our RV park, it was also an easy 10mi/RT bike ride into town where we loaded up on groceries, including some amazing bread by Brio Breadworks out of Arcata, CA.

The handful of restaurants in town were only open for take-out (even despite having outdoor dining capabilities), so we opted for RV dine-in. We discovered a phenomenal fish market - Katy's Smokehouse - and purchased locally troll-caught salmon (along with some other canned goodness that is supposedly the best in the country!). It was probably the best salmon I have had in my life!

We discovered so many other wonderful hikes and beaches to explore in Trinidad - it is definitely on the list of towns I'd like to come back and spend more time visiting.

...On to the Oregon Coast - where the best ocean front RV park awaits!
